Dear FVSO Supporter,
FVSO’s fortieth season was not the one we had planned for and while many celebrations were put on hold, I feel fortunate that our organization remained strong and connected during these past 15 months of greatly reduced concert and rehearsal operations. In Fall 2020, after months of planning by a dedicated Covid-19 committee, 24 string players gathered for seven weeks to prepare a short concert program. After a winter hiatus, another group of reduced strings gathered in April 2021 for another six week session to prepare another concert program. Both of these fine performances can be viewed on Simsbury Community Television at no cost.
In between these two performances our world continued to change as the first vaccines were released to health care workers, first responders and the most vulnerable beginning in late December. By the time we resumed string rehearsals in mid April 2021, nearly 80% of those participating had had at least one dose. The ever widening availability and access to vaccines gives us hope that next season will see a resumption of something mirroring the pre-covid days. There will be changes, concerts may look (and sound) different than before and there is still uncertainty how our regular concert venues will manage live performances with audiences.
We are thrilled to offer two musical programs this summer featuring our full orchestra as well as our winds and brass. Presented to you free, I hope you will consider making a contribution to FVSO’s Annual Fund and to the Farmington Food Pantry.
Whether you decide to join us in person or watch a performance from our friends at Simsbury TV, thank you for making the FVSO a part of your musical journey.
